WE GLOBAL OH!
DJ BOAT is a Ghanaian-American DJ, record producer, and influencer who has reshaped the Afrobeats music scene with his innovative work. He is the founder of the "we global" movement, a community that aims to change perceptions about Africa and unite blacks around and in the diaspora through Afrobeats.
DJ BOAT's story begins in Ghana, where he was born and raised. He grew up surrounded by music, influenced by the legends of Afrobeats and Highlife, such as Fela Kuti, Angelique Kidjo, and Daddy Lumba. Inspired by their messages of social justice, cultural pride, and artistic expression, he developed a passion for music early on, creating mixtapes of the hottest songs for friends and classmates.
In 2003, DJ BOAT moved to the South Bronx in New York City for high school. Facing challenges and opportunities in his new environment, he never lost his love for music. Continuing to curate music, he discovered new genres and styles, learning to adapt and appreciate the diversity and creativity of the music scene.
In 2008, DJ BOAT enrolled at Cornell University to pursue his education in Business. Joining a fraternity, he began DJing house parties for pure enjoyment. It was here that he noticed a gap in the curation of African music on Spotify. Recognizing the potential, he created a playlist of popular Afrobeats music that quickly went viral, amassing over 500,000 combined subscribers with each update. He became a key voice and a respected influencer in the African music community.
Success as a DJ and curator led DJ BOAT to explore new opportunities in the music industry. Eager to create his music and collaborate with like-minded artists, he reached out to rising stars of Afrobeats, including Victony and Kobi Jonz. They agreed, and soon DJ BOAT was producing original songs and EPs that blended his signature style with their unique talents. The results were extraordinary, with songs and EPs receiving millions of streams and positive reviews. DJ BOAT had proven himself as a record producer and a creative force.
His achievements motivated him to pursue a bigger goal: using his music to change the world, challenge perceptions about Africa, and unite blacks around and in the diaspora. Thus, the "we global" movement was born.
"We global" is more than a slogan; it's a philosophy, a statement, a challenge, a call to action. It signifies that Afrobeats is not just a genre but a culture transcending borders, languages, and backgrounds. It celebrates diversity, creativity, and collaboration on a global scale.
Today, DJ Boat stands as a beacon of innovation, unity, and cultural transformation. The "WE GLOBAL" movement, a potent force for change, reaches across continents, uniting people of African descent through the infectious beats of Afrobeats. Beyond music, this movement serves as a catalyst for transformation, reshaping perceptions, and fostering unity within diverse communities across the diaspora.
As DJ Boat perpetuates his journey, dedicated to the turntables, producing, and collaborating with fellow artists, he continues to leverage his music and brand to inspire change. He leaves an indelible mark as DJ BOAT, the global pioneer of Afrobeats.
